How does the Internet work? What happens to my data? How do I get the computer to do what I want? Informatics lessons at the GISW answer these and many other related questions that occur to students in their daily “digital life”. In this course students create homepages, build virtual networks, learn basic programming using different languages and get to explore the inside of a computer.
Besides acquiring the knowledge and techniques of contemporary computing technology, students are encouraged to undertake independent exploration, challenge-based learning through complex tasks that lead to creative solutions. Those who master the subject so as to understand how computers work gain a significant advantage in all dimensions of the digital age; they are far better prepared to exploit opportunities aligned with their career and personal goals and can use their skills to avoid the many hazards across modern IT.
